Our Resources
Furniture and accessories - wholesale
Twice a year (October and April) we attend the High Point international furniture market - the largest wholesale furniture market in the world with over 10 million square feet of exhibit space. In addition, we periodically attend markets in Dallas, Los Angeles and Chicago as well as local antique and crafts markets. These markets give us constant exposure to thousands of manufacturers from around the world and keep us on the cutting edge of new design ideas incorporating the most unique products available.
Furniture and accessories - retail
We strive to develop and maintain outstanding relationships with local retailers in cities where we have offices or are working on a project. We have negotiated designer discounts with numerous retailers and we pass these savings on to our clients. Our retailers provide an invaluable resource for furniture and accessories and give our clients the opportunity to experience the product first hand before making a purchase - i.e. trying out the feel of a sofa, chair or bed or seeing and feeling the actual finish on a product or the true colors of a beautiful rug or other item. When delivery time is critical, our local retailers also provide the possibility of immediate delivery of certain items they may have in stock.
Furniture and accessories - “to the trade only”
We are registered with and have accounts with numerous manufacturers and suppliers that sell to the design trade only. We have access to fabric, furniture and accessory showrooms in all major cities in the US. In addition we subscribe to online design sources where we have access to hundreds of manufacturers’ catalogs containing thousands of photographs, pricing and finish details.

How We Price Our Services
Initial consultation: The first meeting generally requires between one and three hours, depending on the scope of the project. The fee is based on an hourly rate.
During this meeting we will also determine weather or not you need our full design services or if you just need help with a specific component of your design, such as window treatments or furniture selections.
A design fee will be billed for time committed to your design project in preparing the budget and drawings, researching and selecting furniture, accessories and other materials, and during meetings with you to generate the details of the project. For larger projects, ten hour blocks of time are purchased, payable in advance. We will estimate the number of blocks of time we expect to need for preparation and completion of your design project.
In addition to our design fee, we have a markup on purchases of window treatments, furniture, accessories and work performed by contractors. The price you pay - including the markup on purchases - generally represents a savings to you between 5% and 25% below retail prices due to the discounts we negotiate with manufacturers and retailers in the home furnishings industry. This markup covers our time committed to initiating orders, reviewing and signing contracts, following up on shipments, periodic inspections of work in progress, and final approval of work performed and items received.
We invoice time and materials on a periodic basis accompanied by a detailed statement of your account. Payment is due upon receipt of invoice.
Additional notes on pricing: When a design project requires resources beyond the local market, our client will occasionally accompany us on a buying trip to other cities. Travel time and expenses are incurred and billed in these situations.
We have detailed written policies for travel expenses that are available upon request. We travel domestically and internationally to accommodate our clients needs. Travel time and expenses are billed as incurred. We have designers on staff fluent in Spanish and we are experienced in international import/export activities.
How We Work
Initial client meeting
This is our opportunity to get to know each other and for us to understand your style, needs and objectives related to your home interior. It is very beneficial if you have photographs of interiors you find attractive or photos of a previous home you particularly enjoyed. We will begin the process of establishing a base from which to proceed by determining the overall feeling you want to experience in each room of your home and how to weave each room together into a beautiful overall design that meets all your needs. If we decide to proceed with the next stage of your project, we will also discuss the details of our standard engagement agreement.
Second stage
At this point we will photograph and measure rooms, windows and any furniture, art or accessories you would like to incorporate into your design. If you have floor plans and interior elevations of your home, it will save a lot of time if you can provide us with copies. We will begin the process of refining and determining your style based on color, fabrics, window treatments, furniture and upholstery, rugs, flooring, lighting, art and accessories. We will determine rough budget parameters at this time. If there is minor or major remodeling to be performed, we schedule contractors to come to your home and begin the process of generating bids. In addition, we have painting contractors, wallpaper hangers and other specialized artisan come to your home and prepare a bid for their portion of the design project.
Third stage
We begin to finalize the basics of color, furniture, upholstery and accessory directions, fabrics, window treatments and any remodeling details involving materials selection. If drawings are needed to fully communicate the desired results, we provide these at this time. We will set priorities and scheduling requirements and begin preparation of a project outline and budget.
Fourth stage
We now have a detailed budget, specification package and any contractor bids that may apply, based on decisions from the previous meetings.
Fifth stage
Upon your approval, this budget is our working tool and guideline for the remainder of the design process. As your interior design consultant, we will begin ordering all materials and scheduling work to be performed by contractors as outlined in the budget. You will be updated on a regular basis of the process of your project and of any need for changes or further selections.
Sixth and final stage
We will be in communication with you throughout the remainder of your project. We will coordinate deliveries and placement of you furniture including accessories, installation of window treatments and art and the initiation and completion of any work performed by contractors. By the end of this process, we are bound to be good friend!
